Hamilton-Jacobi Approach for Power-Law Potentials

چکیده
The classical and relativistic Hamilton-Jacobi approach is applied to the one-dimensional homogeneous potential, V (q) = αqn, where α and n are continuously varying parameters. In the non-relativistic case, the exact analytical solution is determined in terms of α, n and the total energy E. It is also shown that the non-linear equation of motion can be linearized by constructing a hypergeometric differential equation for the inverse problem t(q). A variable transformation reducing the general problem to that one of a particle subjected to a linear force is also established. For any value of n, it leads to a simple harmonic oscillator if E > 0, an “anti-oscillator” if E < 0, or a free particle if E = 0. However, such a reduction is not possible in the relativistic case. For a bounded relativistic motion, the first order correction to the period is determined for any value of n. For n >> 1, it is found that the correction is just twice that one deduced for the simple harmonic oscillator (n = 2), and does not depend on the specific value of n. Approximations to Optimal Feedback Control Using a Successive Wavelet Collocation Algorithm
Wavelets, which have many good properties such as time/freqency localization and compact support, are considered for solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation as appears in optimal control problems. Specifically, we propose a Successive Wavelet Collocation Algorithm (SWCA) that uses interpolating wavelets in a collocation scheme to iteratively solve the Generalized-Hamilton-Jacobi-Bell...
متن کاملTopology Optimization of Eddy Current Systems by Level-Set and Primal-Dual Methods
The paper deals with a topology optimization of electromagnetic media described by the eddy current equations. This problem finds many applications in the design of modern high power electronic devices. The construction of a subtle layout of the devices requires to avoid significant losses in the power transmission due to parasitic inductivities. We consider a minimization problem with an objec...
متن کاملPower Series Solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman Equation for Descriptor Systems, Report no. LiTH-ISY-R-2701
Optimal control problems for a class of nonlinear descriptor systems are considered. It is shown that they possess a well-defined analytical feedback solution in a neighborhood of the origin, provided stabilizability and some other regularity conditions are satisfied. Explicit formulas for the series expansions of the cost function and control law are given.

This paper presents a novel approach for developing tracking controllers for nonlinear systems. The approach involves the numerical solution, by Galerkin approximation , of the time-varying Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation and results in a nonlinear controller approximating the optimal tracking control law for a spec-iied desired trajectory and cost function. Experimental results are pres...
متن کاملHypersurface-invariant approach to cosmological perturbations.
Using Hamilton-Jacobi theory, we develop a formalism for solving semiclassical cosmological perturbations which does not require an explicit choice of time-hypersurface. The Hamilton-Jacobi equation for gravity interacting with matter (either a scalar or dust field) is solved by making an Ansatz which includes all terms quadratic in the spatial curvature. Gravitational radiation and scalar pert...
